Bring a Book, Get It Signed
Walk up to the table, tell Bahram who the book is for, and he'll sign it. Parents and grandparents tell us the signed copy is the one that gets reread, so it's worth bringing a favorite you already own along with picking up a new one.
Kids who like asking questions will get plenty of answers. What is the world's first animation? Who made the Venus of Sarab, and how old is she? Why would anyone bury a flute?
The fair is free to attend, indoors, with free parking, and it is built around meeting the people behind the books. Authors, illustrators, publishers and booksellers fill the room. Two storytelling areas run all day, with authors and doctors from Stanford Medicine Children's Health reading aloud. There is a hands-on family craft table, and the first 200 families each day get a free book backpack.
Costumed storybook favorites make the rounds both days, including Elephant & Piggie and Woody & Buzz Lightyear. Families who reserve a spot online get a free $2 Book Buck to spend at the fair, one per family.

About the Books
If your children have never met the archaeology of ancient Iran, this is an easy first introduction. The series follows a boy who travels back through real places and real objects: the world's first animation on a painted goblet from the Burnt City, an 8,000-year-old flute, the Bronze Age metalworkers of Shahdad, the oldest Venus figurine at Sarab. Seven books are out now, each one built on a genuine archaeological find.
New to the series? Begin with The First Animation of the Ancient World, Book 1, or browse the full collection. Book 1 is also available in Persian, a copy grandparents can read aloud.
